Minnesota-born cook and culinary writer Amy Thielen is featured in a new cooking show that will premiere Saturday morning on the Food Network, the Star Tribune reports.
Thielen grew up in Park Rapids and now lives in a remote area in Two Inlets, an unincorporated town 20 miles away.
Six episodes were shot for the new series, all in the log cabin she shares with her husband, Aaron, and son, Hank.
“Heartland Table” airs Saturdays at 9:30 a.m. CT.
Thielen, 38, earned a degree in English from Macalester College in St. Paul, and for several summers, she and her husband spent summers at the cabin and winters in Minneapolis.
Eventually the couple moved to New York City and Thielen enrolled in culinary school and ended up working at the premiere restaurant Danube, where she worked and learned culinary techniques from acclaimed chefs Daniel Boulud, Jean-Georges Vongerichten and Shea Gallante and their staffs for seven years, the Star Tribune says.
The couple moved back to their north Minnesota home in 2008 after their son was born, and Thielen began writing articles for the likes of Saveur magazine, Men’s Journal and the Star Tribune’s Taste section. A collection of those articles won her a James Beard award in 2011.
The stories also earned Thielen a two-book deal from Clarkson Potter, and the first one, “The New Midwestern Table,” will be published Sept. 24, the Food Network says.
