Gophers beat Boston College in overtime to reach National Championship game

The Golden Gophers women’s hockey team is one win from a second consecutive National Championship and a perfect season.

The Gophers fended off Boston College, 3-2 in overtime Friday night in the Frozen Four. Minnesota’s Sarah Davis scored the winner just 1:39 into overtime.

Trailing 1-0 after two periods, Minnesota’s Hannah Brandt scored on a slap shot from the left circle to tie the game. Later in the third period Megan Bozak scored to put the Gophers up, 2-1.

Boston College didn’t go away easily, though. Lexi Bender scored exactly two minutes after Bozak to tie the game up, 2-2.

Minnesota (40-0-0) will play in the National Championship game Sunday against Boston University, which defeated Mercyhurst.

The Gophers’ NCAA-record winning streak reached 48 games.
