Hill-Murray football coach, Mauer, arrested in Fridley prostitution sting

The head varsity football coach at Hill-Murray High School is one of 19 men involved in a prostitution investigation at a Fridley hotel last week.

The Patch reports 54-year-old Mark Steven Mauer of Woodbury, the cousin of Twins catcher Joe Mauer, was cited for soliciting prostitution, a misdemeanor.

Fridley police tell FOX9 that Mauer offered an undercover officer $100 for “full service” during the hotel sting. During processing at the Anoka County Jail, officers recovered $100 cash and some Viagra pills from Mauer.

Mauer replaced former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brooks Bollinger as head coach at the Maplewood-based Catholic high school in 2012.

According their website, the Hill-Murray football program prides itself on promoting “family values based on strong Christian values.”

Mauer has held several college football coaching positions. The Minnesota Twins drafted Mauer out of St. Paul’s Harding High School, the Patch says, but he opted to play football for the University of Nebraska, where he was quarterback.

The two-day prostitution sting at the LivINN Suites was carried out by undercover officers who posed as both buyers and sellers of sex on an online escort service site, Backpage.com. Fridley conducts about two prostitution stings each year.

KSTP has the identities of all 19 men and four women cited as a result of the investigation.
