Isaiah Rider: The last Wolves shooting guard with serious upside

It’s been 17 years since the Timberwolves employed a shooting guard with serious upside.

That was 1996 and the man on the job was Isaiah Rider. Three years earlier he was the Slam Dunk champion.

Since then the Wolves have employed a cast of misfits including Rashad McCants, Mike Miller and Wayne Ellington.

The worst part about the positional drought is the wasted top tier picks like Randy Foye, Wes Johnson and Corey Brewer.

What about Anthony Peeler and Wally Szczerbiak? They were good, but they were who they were. The upside wasn’t there.

ESPN.com says Alexey Shved has some serious upside, but he needs to “hit more shots and cut down on turnovers.”

First and foremost, he needs to get healthy, which it looks like he is.
