U hockey women set NCAA record with 33rd straight win

The Gophers women’s hockey team won their 33rd straight game Friday to set a new NCAA women’s hockey record, the Star Tribune reports.

The record came in Wisconsin with a 2-0 win over the Badgers — the previous record holders with 32 straight wins — twice.

The Gophers snapped the Badgers’ most current record winning streak last year.

Hannah Brandt and Mira Jalosuo each scored a goal for the Gophers in the first period, and goalie Noora Ratay shut out the Badgers to secured the victory.

The win lifted the Gophers to 25-0-0 this season.

It was Ratay’s 36th career shutout and 99th career victory.

The goalie will go for an NCAA-tying win No. 100 Sunday as the Gophers try to sweep Wisconsin and build on their consecutive victory record.
