A man holed up in his Maple Grove townhouse for 12 hours threatening suicide is now in custody.
The Star Tribune reports officers were called to the home on the 7600 block of Wedgewood Court in Maple Grove around 2:30 p.m. Friday. Relatives of the 54-year-old man told police he had made suicidal comments.
Officers found the man barricaded in his bedroom with a loaded shotgun pointed to his head and he refused to put the gun down.
A tactical team was called in and neighboring residents in the eight-plex were evacuated, WCCO says.
For several hours, police attempted to communicate with the man inside, but he refused. Robots were used to check the man’s welfare.
The team was able to enter the house early Saturday morning and negotiated with the man. Around 2:30 a.m., he surrendered.
He was transported to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.
