Fridley mother who publicly humiliated 12-year-old daughter gets 3 months in jail

A Fridley mother who pleaded guilty to shaving her 12-year-old daughter’s head and forcing her to run down a city street in a diaper over a failing grade was sentenced Wednesday to three months in jail, the Pioneer Press reported.

The Anoka County Attorney’s Office said Stephanie Ann Broten, 38, was sentenced to a year in jail for malicious punishment of a child. All but three months of the sentence was stayed, however, provided Broten does not violate her two-year probation.

Broten and her boyfriend, Darnell Alan Landrum, 34, were arrested in May on gross misdemeanor malicious punishment of a child charges.

Broten, a mother of four, pleaded guilty to charges last month.

Landrum will be sentenced next week.
