Family says Minn. drowning victim gave up life jacket to save friend

The family of a 25-year-old drowning victim from Richfield says the man reportedly threw his life jacket to a save a friend after their canoe capsized Friday, the Star Tribune reported.

James Welter disappeared in Snelling Lake in Fort Snelling State Park on Friday and was later found, but died at a St. Paul Hospital.
