WCCO pulls campaign ad that attacks Cravaack

It appears that WCCO has pulled a political ad (below) that takes aim at freshman Rep. Chip Cravaack, R-Minn. Cravaack is running against DFL candidate Rick Nolan, the Star Tribune notes.

The spot was created by the House for Majority PAC, who paid $250,000 for a two-week run on Twin Cities television stations (outside Cravaack’s 8th District).

The Star Tribune reports that WCCO seemed to have stopped airing the ad on Friday, the day the Cravaack campaign complained in writing that it is “a blatant attempt to defame Mr. Cravaack,” the Star Tribune reports.

The spot suggests that Cravaack charges constituents for access, in part a reference to a $10-a-head luncheon in Duluth last year. Cravaack says he’s frequently accessible to constituents for free, noting he had 17 town hall meetings, seven tele-townhall conferences, and provided “mobile office visits” to 75 cities in 2011 alone.

The ad pull comes a few weeks after KARE 11 ran a story that explained how it was powerless to remove a controversial political ad with questionable facts against Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn.

Of course, there are still lots of other ads to see. Nolan unveiled a new ad Monday that shows him hunting, fishing and talking about maple syrup, the Associated Press reports.

A Republican group led by former Republican Sen. Norm Coleman is launching TV attack ads against Nolan on Medicare and mining in the 8th District, the Associated Press reports.
