Norm Coleman leads Romney response after Democrat likens GOP to Nazi

On the morning before the Democratic National Convention, California’s party chair stirred a ruckus by likening Vice-Presidential candidate Paul Ryan’s speech at the Republican convention to the lies of Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels.

Former Minnesota Sen. Norm Coleman, who is an adviser to Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, issued the campaign’s response with a statement criticizing rhetoric that Coleman says brings American politics down to the gutter.

The Goebbels comparison came from California Party Chair John Rucker, who was interviewed by San Francisco’s KCBS.  It capped a holiday weekend that also featured a video in which actor Chuck Norris likened an Obama re-election to a triumph of evil.

As for Coleman, he’s been occasionally stepping out from his behind-the-scenes role in the Romney campaign. In addition to fundraising, he’s been active on foreign policy issues.
