Steel workers agree to stay on the job, contract negotiations continue

Cliffs Natural Resources and the United Steelworkers union have agreed to keep negotiating past the September 1 expiration of employee’s contracts in a short-term extension, the Duluth News Tribune reports. The deal affects over a thousand workers in Eveleth and Hibbing.

Although union workers have decided not to strike, the Associated Press says, an agreement has not yet been reached with ArcelorMittal.

According to Reuters, union leaders are hopeful an agreement with U.S. Steel would be reached Friday.
