Harrington named new transit police chief

A veteran police commander with a political resume was named Monday to oversee law enforcement on a rapidly growing network of light rail and bus transit in the Twin Cities, the Star Tribune reports.

John Harrington, a retiring DFL state senator and former police chief in St. Paul, has been chosen for the job.

Harrington will start Sept. 4, the Pioneer Press reports. His predecessor, Dave Indrehus, retired in January.

Harrington quit his job as a DFL state senator after one two-year term, after quickly becoming frustrated with politics, the Pioneer Press reported.
