Man pleads guilty in cross burning in Beltrami Co.

Sentencing has been set for Oct. 10 for Derek Barnes, who remains in Beltrami County Jail and faces up to five years in prison, the Bemidji Pioneer reports. Police say he and an accomplice, also charged, put an 8-foot cross in a yard and lit it. A woman who lived in the home at the time, who is white, has two adult children whose father is black.
