Bachmann left off stage at GOP convention

Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., a contender for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination and a tea party favorite, is not among the 22 Republican “headliners” selected so far to address the Republican National Convention in support of the Mitt Romney-Paul Ryan ticket, the St. Cloud Times notes.

Instead, the outspoken lawmaker from Stillwater will lend her conservative voice at off-site events. That includes the Unity Rally 2012 she and Atlanta businessman Herman Cain, another one-time presidential contender, are expected to participate in on the eve of the convention. The event is being held at a church outside of town.

Bachmann continues to enjoy solid support in her district and she is among the top five campaign cash fundraisers in the U.S. House (trivia: so is Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., Mitt Romney’s new running mate).

In other news, Bachmann is the second-wealthiest of Minnesota’s 10 lawmakers in Congress, the Associated Press reports.
