Utilities commission OKs permits for revamped Iron Range power plant

The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission unanimously agreed permits issued to Excelsior Energy two years ago for a flexible-fuel power plant in the city of Taconite should suffice for the construction of the natural gas-fired power plant, the Duluth News Tribune reports. Opponents of the controversial project argued that the permits should not be approved without further review.
