Make the most of summer: 9 destinations for family fun

Minnesota destinations for family fun include a wide variety of amusement parks, theme parks and zoos. From Nickelodeon Universe to Valleyfair, the Minnesota Zoo to the Lake Superior Zoo, you can even explore a special pirate exhibit at the Science Museum. Here are just nine of the many great destinations for family fun in Minnesota.

Como Town Amusement Park
Welcome to Como Town, the amusement park for kids ages 2 to 12 and their family. Como Town has more than 18 rides and attractions including the new Splash Zone and Tilt-A-Whirl. Como Town also features Traffic Jam! Bumper Cars, Screamin’ Dragon Roller Coaster, Frog Hopper, Tornado and Como Town Swing. Great fun for the entire family and located next to Como Park Zoo and Conservatory in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Como Zoo & Marjorie McNeely Conservatory
Como Zoo features indoor and outdoor exhibits, including large cats, primates, polar bears & aquatic animals. The Marjorie McNeely Conservatory has permanent tropical and changing seasonal plants and flowers. Cafesjians Carousel is now in Como Park with seasonal operation April through October. The Como Ordway Memorial Japanese Garden is open from May 1 through the end of September.

Great Lakes Aquarium
The Great Lakes Aquarium is home to a variety of species found primarily in the Great Lakes Basin. Additional exhibits showcase animals from both freshwater and marine habitats around the world. Visit us to see and learn more about river otters, a variety of regional birds, freshwater fish from Lake Superior and the Amazon River, and our special saltwater feature, seahorses.

Lake Superior Zoo
Year-round recreational opportunities for animal lovers of all ages. Meet hundreds of animals and exotic species from around the world including: African lions, Amvr tigers, polar bear, snow leopards, Alaskan grizzly & Kodiak bears, harbor seals, kangaroos, and primates. Experience daily animal feedings designed to excite both zoo animals and zoo visitors.

Minnesota Children’s Museum of Rochester
A new museum dedicated to sparking children’s learning through play recently opened in Rochester. A satellite location of the popular Minnesota Children’s Museum in St. Paul, both sites offer parents and kids a refreshing alternative to the “do not touch” environment of most other museums. Kids crawl, play, and get busy in immersive exhibit environments, and enjoy art making and other activities.

Minnesota Zoo
Located just minutes south of Mall of America, the Minnesota Zoo brings education and entertainment to life! Located on nearly 500 rolling, wooded acres, the Zoo is home to penguins, a lush tropical forest and aviary, marine center, boreal forest, tundra, and a family farm. With more than 4,100 animals, you’re bound for a new adventure on every visit! The Zoo also has banquet facilities and picnic rentals available. New in 2012 will be Dinosaurs! (summer only) and a new, permanent black bear exhibit (opening in the fall).

Nickelodeon Universe at MOA
The world’s largest indoor amusement park, featuring seven acres of unique indoor attractions and entertainment. The only exclusive Nickelodeon theme park in the world, featuring rides, meet and greets with Nick characters, unique Nickelodeon retail and much more. It all adds up to an amazing entertainment experience for the whole family.

Real Pirates Special Exhibit at the Science Museum
