Multi-year Capitol renovation under way

A multi-year project has begun to renovate the Fargo Forum reports.

A dozen other century-old state capitols, including in Wisconsin and Iowa, have undergone renovation, with only Minnesota’s remaining. Fixing the Capitol, which hosts 300,000 visitors a year, is a multi-year project. Lawmakers and governors in the coming years will decide how long it takes and exactly what gets done.

So far, two major projects have begun: dome repair and removing blocks of marble that could fall off the outside of the building.

Here’s some interesting history and trivia about the structure.

The Minnesota State Capitol Preservation Commission has more info on the project.
