Amy Senser sentenced to 41 months in prison

A Hennepin County District Court judge said Amy Senser must serve at least two-thirds of her sentence behind bars for the fatal hit-and-run accident that killed a Roseville man last August on a freeway exit ramp in Minneapolis.

In May, a jury convicted the wife of former Minnesota Viking Joe Senser on two felony counts of criminal vehicular homicide.

Moments before she was sentenced Monday morning, the Star Tribune reports she told Anousone Phanthavong’s family, “I hope you can believe me that I never saw your son that night. And if I had I would have stopped to help him. I take full responsibility for his death.”

WCCO also reports Senser hugged the victim’s parents before she was taken into custody.

Senser’s defense attorney Eric Nelson told KSTP she recently had Anousone Phanthavong’s name tattooed on her wrist.

Minnesota Public Radio compares Senser’s sentence with other recent hit-and-run cases in Minnesota.
