Park Rapids picked to host the Governor's fishing opener next year

Explore Minnesota Tourism office Director John Edman says the area, home to Itasca State Park, has excellent fishing and has a long history as a family vacation area. The 66th annual Governor's fishing opener is the weekend of May 10, 2013. For the second straight year, Gov. Mark Dayton was unable to catch a walleye during the opener this weekend.
