Settlement reached in Senser civil case

A day after jurors found Amy Senser guilty on 2 out of 3 felony counts, the Associated Press first reported that a settlement had been reached in the civil suit filed by the family of the victim Anousone Phanthavong.

The jury found her guilty of leaving the scene of an accident and failure to promptly report an accident that killed Phanthavong, 38, along an exit ramp last summer in Minneapolis.

Kare11 spoke with one juror who said that the damage to Senser’s car made it clear that something “very serious had happened.”

The Star Tribune talked with a different juror who said that the group agreed they would not deadlock and spent much of the day Thursday reviewing phone records and other circumstantial evidence before coming to a decision.

Senser was acquitted of operating a vehicle (Pioneer Press) in a grossly negligent manner.

She also was found guilty of a misdemeanor charge of careless driving.

She will be sentenced on July 9. Her lawyer said that some sort of appeal is planned.

Minnesota Public Radio reports Senser will remain free until sentencing.

Chuck Whitney, owner of True Thai restaurant where Phanthavong worked, told Fox9 that he feels justice has been served (video below).
