Roger’s father, George, also held the same position for 40 years.

    Clarence Opheim will be freed to a Minneapolis halfway-house after 19 years in the sex-offender program. The Star Tribune reports the 64-year-old is the first patient to be released since the program started in 1994. Opheim was convicted in the late 1980s of criminal sexual assault of a teenage boy.     The Minnesota Department of Human Services reports 97.6 percent of retailers checked selling tobacco products are following underage tobacco laws. In order to receive federal funding for prevention and treatment efforts, Minnesota is required to have a least an 80 percent compliance rate. During the 12-month survey, law enforcement agencies issued about 600 citations to store owners.

    Researchers at the North American Bear Center in Ely say Jewel and her two new cubs are getting more active. A live webcam continues to monitor the den where the cubs were born.

    A study of more than 5,000 children born in Rochester showed that children who had two or more surgeries before they were 2 years old were twice as likely to be diagnosed with the attention disorder later in life. Doctors believe general anesthesia could be the cause.

    Infinite Spirits Inc., filed a Chapter 7 bankruptcy petition last month. The West Central Tribune reports the Minnesota-based company will be liquidated, but the Shakers brand could be sold. It was distilled in Benson up until last year.
