    If you get caught in a thunderstorm in the Twin Cities this weekend, you might want to thank it for blowing away the plan to close Interstate 94. MnDOT postponed its work because of the rain in the forecast. No word yet on when it will be rescheduled. The project will install "smart lane" technology, as well as a new surface and improved drainage.

    Minnesota Congresswoman Betty McCollum wants to prohibit the Pentagon from sponsoring NASCAR, pro wrestling, or fishing events. Her effort went nowhere last year, but this time she has a Republican co-sponsor and the measure gained committee approval.

    About 200 buffalo escaped from a ranch in northern Iowa and while most were recaptured, some have spread across the region including southwestern Minnesota. Now Minneapolis soon will lose its long-held majority on the Hennepin County Board, dramatically underscoring the changing dynamic of the past 60 years.

There are two main reasons, he said, "the welfare of the two beloved dolphins currently at the zoo, and the fiscal and logistical challenges of acquiring a viable dolphin group to replace them." There are just "no viable" options to keep it going, he said.

    State pollution officials intercepted 64 pounds of mercury that a Craigslist seller found in his late grandfather's garage. The seller in Floodwood, Minn., posted an ad to sell the elemental mercury for $650, and an alert Craigslist browser contacted authorities. Elemental mercury is toxic to human kidneys and the nervous system.

    U.S. Bank is bumping up overdraft fees for all its accounts beginning June 29, the Minneapolis-based bank confirmed Wednesday. The bank's new $35 overdraft fee brings it in line with the country's biggest financial institutions, including Bank of America, Huffington Post reports. Bank officials note that the 15 million-customer bank is eliminating one other fee and lowering yet another.
